Junior League 5 : Bangor 0 v 2 North Down

Sixths Suffer Home Defeat Against North Down

Bangor were on the wrong side of a 2 - 0 home defeat against an experienced North Down side on Friday night. The visitors opened very strongly and put Bangor under a great deal of pressure for the opening 15 minutes. At the end of this period of play Bangor were lucky to only have conceded one goal through a well worked attack by North Down. Had it not been for some excellent goalkeeping from Ryan Cherry combined with good defensive work from Chris Dorman and Brian McKee, it could have been much worse. Bangor managed to hold on to half time and seemed to be gradually growing in confidence with some good play from the mid field trio of McNulty and the two Dornan brothers.

A change of tactics was employed after the break to try and get Bangor some more bite in front of goal. With the pace of the younger Dornan now up front combined with the youth and experience of Mount and Campbell, Bangor seemed to be getting somewhere. However North Down where always a threat and as Bangor legs tired they pounced again and scored an easy 2nd after a defensive error.

Bangor now had to throw caution to the wind and really pushed forward creating some of their best chances of the match. Coughlin pushed the team forward from defence and Bangor were unlucky not to get a some reward. The visiting defence did its job, denying good efforts from both McAllister and Tate. The Bangor players left the pitch feeling that they should have had more reward for the considerable effort exerted. A little more experience of playing together and this team could hopefully climb up the league table.
