Bangor Men's Hockey Club
6th XI started their chase for promotion from the Ulster Corporate
Coaching Junior League 6 with a 3-3 draw against Annadale 6's at Bangor
Sportsplex on Friday 15th September.
Bangor took an early lead
with a superb cross field pass into the circle from Michael Elborn which
was latched onto by Phil Campbell who flicked the ball past the 'dale
keeper to make it 1-0.
Annadale replied immediately
surging up the field and equalising within a couple of minutes of the
restart.
While both teams had
opportunities to score after this, the scoreline remained 1-1 until half
time.
The second half arrived and with
it Bangor introduced some fresh legs into the match and it was not long
before the substitutions paid dividends.
After forcing a couple of short
corners Bangor were awarded a penalty flick, all that remained was to
decide who would take it.. Following some deliberation Jonny Connor duly
stepped up and drilled the ball to the keepers right to give Bangor a
deserved lead, 2-1.
Annadale started to press for the
equaliser and eventually their pressure paid off and they scored with 3
minutes to go.
However this was not to be the
last word from Bangor who were pressing for the win.
Throwing players forward Bangor
flooded the Annadale half and following some neat interplay on the left
wing the ball found an unmarked Richard Taylor in the circle who squeezed
the ball past the Annadale keeper to give Bangor the lead for the third
time in the game.
It was to be shortlived however,
as Bangor were caught napping at the back. Annadale powered their way into
the circle and forced the rebound home from the inital save by Bangor
Captain Nick Craig to level the match.
It proved to be a disappointing
end for Bangor having taken the lead on three occasions, however they will
be using it as motivation for their upcoming away match to Harlequins' 5th
XI this Friday 21st September.
