Bangor 5's had another disappointing weekend losing 2-1
at Ballykillaire to Ballynahinch 2's.
The young Bangor team soaked up alot of the Ballynahinch pressure early on
and were very unlucky to go beind from a 'Hinch short corner, following
some questionable umpiring decisions. While the initial shot from the
corner was saved 'Hinch converted the rebound to take the lead.
Shortly afterwards, the Bangor defence were adjudged to have blocked a
shot on goal using their feet and the umpire awarded Ballynahinch a
penalty flick which was duly dispatched. The away side were now 2 goals to
the good and looked comfortable.
Following a couple of tactical substitutions Bangor started to fight their
way back into the game.
Some neat interplay on the left wing from debutant Ryan McAllister and
Daniel McNulty created a great chance for Rory McMillan to pull one back
but his shot sped just wide of the left hand post.
Bangor continued to press, and another glorious opportunity to score fell
to Petey Dorman, but his powerful shot was well saved by the Ballynahinch
keeper. Bangor finished the half 2-0 down but the momentum was definately
with them for the beginning of the second half.
Another Bangor change came with Richard Taylor giving way for Nathan Mount
on the right wing and the additional pace on the wings really started to
show as the pressure built on the Ballynahinch defence.
While Bangor won a number of short corners early on in the second half
their goal came from open play with Petey Dorman slotting the ball home
past the 'Hinch keeper after being setup by Ryan McAllister coming in from
the right wing.
Ballynahinch fought back, and threatened on the counter against a Bangor
defence that was continually pushing upfield in search of an equaliser.
After winning a short corner the Bangor defence were once again adjudged
as blocking a shot on goal with their feet and for the second time in the
game Ballynahinch were awarded a penalty flick.
This time however Nick Craig parried the shot with his kicker and the
scoreline remained 2-1.
Re-energised, Bangor flooded forward for the last 10 minutes in search of
the equaliser, but the Ballynahinch defence and midfield frustrated the
Bangor attack to finish victorious.
Next up for Bangor 5's will be Parkview on 29th December
