Junior League 3  : Antrim 4 v 2 Bangor

FOURTHS LOSE AT THE FORUM

Bangor travelled to Antrim 3rds to play their third league game of the
season last Friday evening. The team started well with everyone taking
some time to adapt to the conditions. The team had an 'experienced'
look to it with Geoff Mitchell, making his debut for the 4ths and
Peter Dornan stepping into the breach. Bangor were beginning to cause
the Antrim defence some problems with Hamill, Harper and Agnew in
attack running strongly but unfortunately the final ball lacked
accuracy. However, undeterred the team continued to probe for openings
and from their first short corner a well struck shot brought a good
save from the Antrim goalie. At this point Bangor were the team that
looked most likely to score. But as has happened this season the team
started to lose possession cheaply and from a resulting breakaway
Antrim took the lead.

Half-time 1-0

Bangor started the second half fully committed to restoring the
deficit and again good play in midfield from Irvine, Porter, and
Parker lead to a number of short corners being won. Despite a good
routine, the Antrim defence held firm. Then from a breakaway, good
play involving Mottashaw, Parker and Irvine in midfield lead to an
attack on the right where Hamill and Harper combined and the latter
struck a good shot past the stranded goalie. Bangor continued to play
a more fluent game and from a corner 5 minutes later a switch to
Hamill was flicked deftly into the net to give Bangor a deserved lead.
At this point the first league win of the season was beckoning but
instead of pushing forward Bangor again began to lose possession
cheaply and within 15 minutes found themselves 4-2 behind. Despite
their efforts to find a way back into the contest Bangor were unable
to breach the Antrim defence and the game ended in a win for Antrim.

In summary another defeat for the team but there are encouraging signs
that there is a spirit amongst the guys and whilst the manner of the
defeat was disappointing the effort after halftime to restore the
deficit was clearly demonstrated.
