Junior League 2  : Bangor 3 v 1 NICS

THIRDS SECURE MUCH NEEDED VICTORY

For the second week in a row, Bangor 3rds played hosts, this time to
Civil Service 3rds. Because of injury, Bangor had to reshuffle their
defence, with Ricky Parker moving to right back, R Coughlin to left
back and N Irvine taking his place in goal. The game started brightly
for Bangor as they passed the ball well and began to put Service under
pressure. With a small support braving the weather to watch, in
particular McMillan, Toogood & kids, Bangor gave away a short corner
from one of Service's few journey's into the Bangor circle. The
executed shot was placed low into the corner, giving Service the lead.
Bangor were level within minutes. Harper drifted in from the right,
and gave chase to a seeming lost cause. Once he collected the ball, he
then beat two players before shooting from the top of the circle
beating the keeper to equalise. Half time, 1.1

The second half began, and with Bangor having to reorganise after an
injury to R Coughlin, were put under pressure for the first real time
in the match. Service created a number of half chances, that were
professionally dealt with by Irvine & co in the defence. The midfield
worked tirelessly, with Parker, McCausland and Boyd setting up several
counter attacks. Then with 10 minutes left of the second half, Scott
Parker came deep for the ball before setting R Coughlin free on the
half way line, who raced towards the goal, before squaring to Harper
to score into the empty net for his second. S Parker then scored the
third to put the game beyond doubt.

In all, a good game from Bangor, but with a daunting trip to face
Antrim 2nds, they will have to convert more of their chances to come
away with anything. Man of the match was A McCausland. Many thanks to
G Liard & C Harte for umpiring, and congratulations to N Irvine on
completing his 10km run.
