On Saturday, Bangor 3rd XI travelled the
short distance to Stormont, playing Civil Service 2nd XI. The Bangor side
welcomed schoolboys Douglas, Kirkpatrick, Campbell & McDowell, as well as
Pete Sneddon, who was making his first appearance in a number of seasons.
With the sun shining, Service started the game the brighter, but the young
Bangor side did not let them play too much, pressing hard all over the
pitch. As the game went on, Bangor enjoyed a lot of possession with R
Parker, A McCausland and M Campbell working tirelessly, and defended well.
However, when they reached the final quarter, the final pass seemed to
desert them.
Service to their credit, took the lead through a swift counter attack.
Bangor rallied, and pushed on looking for the equaliser and were unlucky
to concede a second goal against the run of play. At half-time, and 2-0
down, there was plenty to play for and Bangor set about the second half
enthusiastically.
Early on in the second half, Bangor suffered a blow as Campbell was forced
off with a thigh strain. With Bangor having to reorganise, they lost their
momentum somewhat, and this allowed Service to control the game. As Bangor
pushed forward looking for goals, Service scored twice more. Bangor never
gave up, and thought they had scored themselves after a goal mouth
scramble, but this was ruled out for a foul on the keeper.
It finished 4-0, although the scoreline did not reflect the nature of the
game. There were a number of notable performances, in particular Adam
Douglas at left back, making his 3rd XI debut and plenty to build on for
the coming season. |
