HIGH SCORING DRAW FOR THIRDS
On Saturday, Bangor 3rd XI entertained Annadale 3rds in Junior 2.
Again, several new players joined the squad, and the lack of
continuity showed early in the game. N Craig, Savage, Larmer, Boyd,
Reid and Stubbings making their first 3rd appearance of the season.
Playing 4-4-2, the Bangor defence and midfield struggled to take hold
of the game. Annadale, to their credit, started brightly and battled
hard. However it was Bangor, in their first real attack, who took the
lead. It was the first time Bangor had gone forward with real purpose
& R Coughlin finished well. The Bangor delight was shortlived however
as Annadale hit back immediately with a neat move and finish. Annadale
began to put more pressure on the Bangor defence, which seemed to cope
well. A Bangor counter attack saw Savage round of a good team move
with a superbly struck shot. However, Annadale quickly drew level
again with a shot from 10 yards out after some poor Bangor tackling.
Half time 2-2.
Bangor regrouped and changed formation to their regular 4-3-3 and it
seemed to pay dividends, with Savage scoring into an empty net after
neat passing round the Annadale circle. The game became stretched,
with both teams creating chances, R Coughlin hitting the post for
Bangor, while Stubbings cleared off the line. With 10 minutes left
Annadale equalised following a poor decision by the Bangor captain at
the top of the circle. The game finished 3-3, a fair result in the end
and one that will give both sides confidence in the season to come.
Many thanks to S Harper, Mark Campbell & C McDowell for umpiring. |
