Junior League One : Annadale 4 v 2 Bangor

BANGOR DISAPPOINT IN BANBRIDGE

Bangor seconds travelled to Banbridge on Friday night looking to build on their recent good run of results against Banbridge’s third string. Despite a much changed starting eleven, Bangor took control from the outset creating wave after wave of chances but all to no avail. Despite their domination Bangor found themselves a goal down after a swift break from the home side lead to them opening the scoring. Bangor continued to press with several chances going amiss until the introduction of Jonny Poole seemed to breathe life into the Bangor attack. Pooles tenacity and never say die attitude began to cause the Bann defence problems and it was the aforementioned Bangor striker who brought the visitors level with a clinical strike before the half time whistle.

The second half continued in the same vain as the first although Bann were slowly getting to grips with the Bangor style of play. Chances at both ends went unconverted. Alistair McVicar and Ryan Elliott were causing problems with their probing runs forward from the back but it was the introduction of two talented midfield players that seemed to turn the game in Banns favour. Bangor struggled to cope with the introduction of the new found vigour in the Bann attack and in a deadly eight minute period Bann had put the game to bed with three well taken strikes. Amongst Banns three goals Bangor replied with a strike from Dave Edwards. Bangor’s goal was purely a consolation as Banbridge ran out deserved winners.

Next week Bangor are back in action in the Irish Junior Cup quarter final against Dublin YMCA. The team know they will have to lift their performance if they are to challenge against a team travelling north hungry for victory.

Pushback is at 1pm at Ballykillaire and all support would be welcome for what should prove an exciting contest!
