Premier League : Bangor 4 v 4 Banbridge

BANGOR FIGHT FOR A POINT AT BALLYK

Bangor opened their league campaign on Saturday with a dogged performance, earning a valuable point against Banbridge. In appalling weather conditions Bangor took to the pitch with no less than 5 1st team players absent whilst Banbridge welcomed the return of Irish Internationals Geoff McCabe and Eugene Magee.

The first half started brightly for the visitors who created a number of early chances, however it was Bangor who scored first, captain Adam Reading firing home from their first penalty corner. The lead was short lived as Bann took control of the game, twice beating the impressive John Tormey with reverse-stick efforts from their returning international players. Bangor continued to ride their luck for the remainder of the half and were fortunate to draw level before the half time whistle. A flowing attack from left midfield saw Michael Manogue pounce at the back post to level matters.

The second half started much the same as the first half had finished with Banbridge enjoying plenty of possession but unable to convert any of their chances. Eventually the pressure on Bangors defence told as Bann scored two goals in quick succession. Poor marking from free-hits on the edge of the area gifted the impressive Dane Ward with 2 carbon copy goals at the back post.

With time running out, Bangor began to push forward and enjoyed much success through the tireless running of McClean down their right side. Following an interception, McAuley released Harte who in turn found Morton in the Bann penalty area. With the keeper drawn out of position, the ball was slipped to Harte who had continued his run for the simplest of finishes.

With only 2 minutes remaining on the clock, Bangor scored the final goal of the game. This time it was Reading who began a flowing attack involving McAuley, Campbell and Harte. Eventually the ball fell to Dave Edwards who hammered home for his first goal of the season.

This weekend sees Bangor travelling to face the newly promoted Raphoe. Having already enjoyed success over the Donegal side in a pre-season friendly, Bangor will be keen to return with all 3 points.
