Junior League 5 : South Antrim 5 v 1 Bangor

SIXTHS SUFFER HEAVY LOSS ON THE ROAD

The new look youthful 6th XI continued their League campaign away to South Antrim 4th on Saturday 13th October. The opening quarter was a close contest, with Bangor’s young players battling hard against an experienced South side. The home side gained the momentum however, after a sustained period of heavy pressure to unlock the Bangor defence with a scrappy goal after 16 minutes. Despite this set back, Bangor quickly got back on level terms after the restart following a well worked move started by Pater Dornan in midfield passing to Nathan Mount on the left. Some good individual skill enabled Nathan to beat his man and drill a pass into the area finding Captain Richard Taylor who diverted into the bottom right corner of the Antrim goal.

Unfortunately the balance quickly shifted back to Antrim, who picked up were they left off scoring from two penalty corners in quick succession before the break giving a half-time score of 3-1.

Following the break Bangor pushed forward in search of goals. Some good individual breaks from midfield by Ryan McAlister and Ryan Tait were unfortunately unsuccessful, with the experience of the South Antrim able to snuff out any attack. Two further breakaway goals were scored by the home side in quick succession on 50 and 53 minutes putting the result beyond doubt. With this Antrim eased off, handing the initiative to Bangor whose young players battled on in search of goals but to no avail. Unfortunately, Bangor finished the game with ten men following injury to Ryan Agnew as a result of a dangerously lifted pass just outside the penalty area with five minutes left.
