Junior League 5 : Harlequins 2 v 1 Bangor

SIXTHS UNFORTUNATE AGAINST HARLEQUINS

The 6's travelled to Deramore Park on  Friday 21st September to take
on Belfast Harlequins 5's in the second match of the Junior 6
campaign. Strangely, there were a number of familiar faces in the
Harlequins lineup but this did not put off a young Bangor team.

Bangor started the brighter of the two teams with the midfield trio of
Peter Dorman, Rory Porter and Carl McManus controlling the play. Early
pressure resulted in a penalty corner, but this was drilled wide by
Peter Dorman.

Bangor continued to press and following some good stick work, Tom
Calvert managed to squeeze a ball through to James Curry but the shot
was saved by the Harlequins keeper. Shortly after however Bangor won
their second penalty corner of the evening and this time Peter Dorman
spanked a shot from the top of the 'D' past the flailing Harlequins
keeper for the 1st goal of the game.

The goal woke up Harlequins and they started to come into the game,
pushing up the field for the first time in the game. However they
found it diffucult to get past the gritty defensive lineup of Neil
Martin, Ryan Agnew, Stephen Mackie and Duncan Morris and barely
managed a shot on target before the half time break.

Following the restart Harlequins changed formation and pushed four
players up front to try and push for the equaliser. With no
substitutes and tiring legs Bangor gave into the sustained pressure
and Harlequins found their equaliser on the hour and their second a
short time after.

Bangor knew they had to try and press Harlequins back to try and force
an equaliser of their own, but it wasn't to be and the match finished
2-1 to the home side.

There were many positives for the Bangor team with strong performances
from Stephen Mackie in defense, Carl McManus in Midfield and Tom
Calvert in Attack.
