A new look Bangor 5's took on a strong Raphoe 4's at
Ballykillaire on
saturday past.
Bangor won the toss and gave Raphoe the push back, but it was Bangor
who started the brightest. Bangor laid seige to the Raphoe goal in the
first 5 minutes and the pressure told as Raphoe conceeded a couple of
short corners. Chris Coughlin stepped up to the mark but was
unsuccessful with both attempts.
Raphoe started to come into the game and it wasnt long before they
took the lead squeezing a shot in the near side past the Bangor
Captain Nick Craig.
Bangor pushed upfield to try and force an equaliser but got caught on
the break and Raphoe scored their second of the game with a reverse
from the right hand side of the circle.
Half time couldn't come soon enough.
Bangor changed things at half time bringing on Adam Watson, James
Mottashaw and Peter Dorman hoping to reassert themselves on the game.
However it was Raphoe who made the 1st impression on the second half
scoring their third goal on the rebound from the inital save from Nick
Craig.
This goal however spurred Bangor on and what followed was their most
promising period of play. Wave after wave of Bangor attack was
repelled by Raphoe, even a double save from the Raphoe keeper from
Richard Aiken who found himself alone in front of goal with only the
keeper to beat.
Time was running out but Bangor did force a consolation goal following
a great run from Stevie Robinson. He drew the keeper to the right,
passed across the face of goal and found Richard Aiken who finished
into the empty net.
So it ended Bangor 1 Raphoe 3
While it was a disappointing loss, the young Bangor team had plenty of
positives to take from the game and though this was the first time
many of them have played in Junior 4 they showed the potential that
they will be able to hold their own in this league. |
