Bangor 2 v 6 Civil Service |
|
On Saturday Bangor fourths played Civil Service trying to build on a good performance the previous week but came away disappointed after a 6-2 loss to the current league leaders. Civil Service started at a fast pace and tried to exert their influence on the match and play was keenly contested in the midfield where the trio of Tweed, Halliday and Parker initially found themselves pended back deep in their own half. However, Bangor gradually began to come into their own when from their first short corner Todd narrowly shot wide. This prompted Service to up the pace and from a quick break away McEvoy in the Bangor goal made a fine point blank save. Indeed he was called on a number of occasions during the half to make saves when left one on one. Bangor continued to play their neat passing game that has been evident in the last number of weeks and they were beginning to exert pressure on the Service goal but frustratingly were unable to convert their chances. A fine break down the right flank between Patterson, Halliday, Tweed and Wilson created a two on one situation but the final pass just eluded tweed in the circle. Mark Campbell was creating problems for the Service defence with his strong intelligent running and from a typical run he won a short corner just before halftime that Todd flashed narrowly past the ‘keepers left hand post.
Bangor’s start to the second half was poor when a ball from the push back was sent into the Bangor circle and from the resulting short corner Service took the lead. They doubled this lead within three minutes when good play from the Service winger created a chance for the centre forward to score. To their credit Bangor continued to play their neat hockey and from an attack down the left an intelligent aerial pass from Todd found Halliday unmarked in the circle. He controlled the ball instantly and flicked the ball high into the right hand corner to reduce the deficit. Bangor now began to dominate with Campbell to the fore and he was unlucky when a high snap shot was cleared of the line. Not to be outdone another good attack down the left found Campbell once again and his precise pass left Wilson with the easy task of equalising. At this point Bangor should have gone on to win the game but inexplicably within a minute they were 3-2 down and within five minutes 5-2 down due to poor defending. Try as they might Bangor were unable to get back into the game and eventually lost 6-2. On the balance of play Bangor did not deserve to lose so heavily. However, as has been said weekly if you do not take chances in this league then you will be punished. The side must concentrate on ensuring that when we are dominating a match that we are more ruthless in converting these chances whilst also ensuring that we do not concede weak goals. |
