Annadale 4 v 5 Bangor |
|
On Saturday, the Bangor 3rds travelled to Loch Moss to take on Annadale 3rds. After their good performance last week, the team were confident and were buoyed by the inclusion of Stranaghan, Kerrigan, Brennan and Parker. The game started brightly, with Bangor moving the ball about quickly and at times, with ease. They created a number of chances after good work in midfield by Parker, Boyd, and up front by McIllhagga, Stranaghan, and Mulholland. However, against the run of play, Annadale won a short corner, which was scored giving them the lead. This spurred Bangor on, and following good work down the right wing by Mulholland, and Boyd, the ball came to Robin Coughlin, who finished well. Annadale however, retook the lead, following a rare piece of confusion in the Bangor circle. Bangor again equalised, this time through Johnny Boyd from close reach, after the keeper saved well from a Bangor short corner. For the third time, Annadale took the lead, with another short corner, but this lasted all of a minute before Bangor were again on level terms. Stranaghan finished calmly after more good work down the right wing. Half time 3-3. With Bangor determined to force the way into the lead, they created a number of chances, and Bangor take two of them. First, McIllhagga finished from close range at the back post, before Mulholland finished a great run from a tight angle with a rising shot. Indeed, it could have been more, as the opposing keeper did well to save from a number of chances. Bangor suffered a blow halfway through the second half, when their keeper Irvine was hit by a sweetly struck shot, that drew blood from his face. He battled on, saving well, and Bangor were unlucky to concede a fourth after a short corner was broken down at the back post. Bangor held on for a memorable and deserved victory. Another good performance and another win, which will boost their confidence ahead of their game this weekend when Harlequins travel to Bangor.
