NICS 6ths 5-6 Bangor 6ths

There was action at Stormont this week, with the Sixths involved in an eleven goal thriller, in which they won 6-5 against top of the table NICS Sixths.  Bangor looked the sharper of the two sides when inside the first 10 minutes Mike Ferguson Jr. put the away side in front.  The onslaught didn’t stop there and soon enough Mike put Bangor 2-0 up before Coner Savage got in on the act to make to 3-0 after beating two men and slotting the ball past the stranded ‘keeper.  Just before half-time NICS made it 3-1 to keep the game alive.

At the start of the second half the home side kept possession well and created good chances that were thwarted by Duncan Morris, Robin McCready, Adam Douglas and Thomas Crawford in defence.  Though this was not enough and NICS threw the game into life with a goal to make it 3-2.  This did not deter Bangor and a defensive error from the home side let Mike get his hat-trick and restore the Sixths two goal cushion.  As before this did not last long and NICS grabbed a goal back to make it 4-3, but Bangor were determined not to lose the lead, and two quick goals from Coner Savage and Mike Ferguson made it 6-3 with ten minutes to go.  Though the Belfast side hadn’t given up and they went on the attack again and put the ball in the back to of the net to narrow the score to 6-4.  With time ticking away and the home side’s continuous pressure the Sixths nearly made it seven on the break through Shorty, but his shot was well saved by the ‘keeper.  The home side then broke down the other end and made it 6-5 with four minutes to go.  Though Bangor held on for the win and prevented from NICS winning the Junior Six League title that day.  Mike Ferguson was man of the match due to his clinical finishing.
