Bangor fifths eased past bottom of the table East Antrim at
Ballykillare on Saturday, putting 10 past them without reply.
The early exchanges were even, Niall McEvoy getting tested twice
in goals. In this period the defence showed its worth, Matty
Neill-McCready, Robin McCready, Allan Stevenson, and Adam Douglas
dominating affairs.
In front of them Thomas Crawford, Paul Scott and Patrick McAlister
were productive, providing plenty of passes to the forward line of
Hamill, Harper and Campbell.
Harper opened the scoring and McAlister scored his first of the
season with a reverse stick effort before the home team were
awarded a stroke, when Matty and Paddy were offering their
services as flick taker, experience prevailed, Gerry Hamill stood
up and powered the ball into the bottom corner.
Saturday must have been a blue moon because Robin was the team's
fourth scorer of the half tapping in at the back post, a
spectacular effort.
Four goals up at half time, and the fifths set out in the second
half to score more and not concede, whilst playing some good
hockey.
The introduction of debutante Craig McDowell and Michael Ferguson
brought more positive play to the game, and the floodgates opened.
Harper grabbing another hat trick, Mark Campbell increasing his
scoring streak, and Matty grabbing his first goals for the fifths,
both from short corners.
Also amongst the goals was Paul Scott, again Harper was in the
vicinity but the midfielder was not to have a second goal stolen
from him in two weeks. The final whistle came a few minutes early
to call the end to another clinical day at the office for the
fifths, and along with it, another two points.
Man of the match was a defender, Adam Douglas with a strong, no
nonsense performance and many thanks to Chris Harte for umpiring.
Again.
