Gerry Hamill
grabbed his seventh goal this season, and more importantly, the winner, as
Bangor fifths took the full eight points from four matches against two
Lisnagarvey teams this season, winning 1-0 on Saturday at the new
Hillsborough complex.
The score line reflects a close
match, but not the number of efforts both teams had on goal.
Garvey were the team who had the
first real effort when from their first short corner Niall McEvoy saved
the original shot and the Garvey forward reacted quickest to flick the
ball high into the goal, only to see his effort amazingly plucked off the
line in midair by the determined Matty Neill McCready, to his team mates
delight.
Gerry struck in the 20th minute with
a trademark reverse flick hard into the bottom corner after great work
from Robin Mcready, Paul Scott and Simon Murray.
Garvey then asserted some dominant
play in the midfield but couldn't make their pressure amount to any real
goalmouth action.
Harper went close on a couple of
occasions; also Calum Togneri and Warren Reid had efforts sail just wide
and the score was 1-0 at half time but as usual the team wanted more
goals.
Douglas and Garland were added into
the mix in the second half and Adam got stuck in right away letting his
forward know he meant business. Ryan added a new dimension up front, with
useful direct play at left wing. He was unlucky not to score after he got
on the end of a delightful through ball from Murray but his first touch
did not take enough pace off the ball and it went out of play.
Scott may have got on the score
sheet but out of goal scoring deference to Simon Harper, he let the
forward shoot, unfortunately he shot wide, soon after Harper hit the
keeper in the face instead of scoring.
Murray got a well-deserved man of
the match, putting a lot of effort in for the team. Many thanks to Mark
Russell for travelling to umpire. |
