BANGOR'S WINNING RUN CONTINUES
The
fourths continued their winning start to the season with another
resounding 6-2 victory over Parkview.
It is encouraging to report that the team continue to play an expansive
game with the ball continually being passed at a fast pace throughout the
side. They continue to dominate matches through their ball retention and
also the fast incisive play through the midfield.
The match started at a reasonable pace with Bangor seemingly starting to
play their controlled passing game. But it was Parkview who opened the
scoring with their only real chance of the half when their centre forward
scored from an acute angle.
This spurred Bangor on and as in the previous game where they have been
behind they continued to play to their strengths and refused to panic.
Indeed the introduction of Todd proved to be a key driver in the first
half as he was able to dominate play in the space left by the Parkview
midfield.
Bangor quickly restored parity after a sustained period of pressure when a
move involving Todd and Parker resulted in the latter breaking into the
circle and his accurate pass found Watterson who was left with a simple
tap-in.
Bangor were now really beginning to exert their authority on the game and
they gained the lead with a sweeping move from the back. Stranaghan found
Todd in midfield with another accurate hit out. Todd’s sweeping pass to
winger Murray was collected wide on the right and Murray raced passed the
defender before finding the elusive Tweed in mid-circle where Adam fairly
rattled the backboard with his seventh goal in six games.
Bangor were now dominating play and a measure of the control were the
countless short corners being won and only for the excellent goalkeeping
display the victory margin would have been greater. From one of these
corners Bangor finally scored when Todd stopped the ball wide on his right
and in one movement rocketed the ball passed the hapless goalkeeper.
With Bangor now 3-1 in the lead and coasting they allowed Parkview back
into the game when with virtually the last strike of the half they scored
from a short corner, the ball passing Smith in the Bangor goal, almost as
quickly as he was seen to hurl his helmet, gloves and stick towards the
dug-out at half time.
The team started the second half again on the attack and continued to play
a fast paced game that continued to pen Parkview back deep in their own
half. Despite continued pressure it wasn't until 15 minutes from the end
that Bangor scored their fourth goal through Cooke after a sweeping move
down the right involving Tweed, Cooke and Murray.
At this point Parkview were merely trying to stem the incessant thrusts of
the Bangor midfield and forward line that looked threatening at each
attack and Tweed was rewarded for another fine display with the last two
goals to seal a fine individual performance. The first was a simple tap in
after another fine save from the Parkview goalkeeper and the last coming
from a short corner switch from Stranaghan with the last strike of the
match.
Overall an excellent performance and encouraging start to the season with
six wins recorded to date. It is imperative that the team continue to
focus on each match and not become complacent. Another similar performance
will be required this week against Instonians.
Man of the match was Adam Tweed after an excellent display and other
performances of note came from Brennan and Burgess.
