On
Saturday Bangor fourths played their league rivals in the Junior Shield. A
simple summary of the match was that the travelling side were keen to play
and the home side did not turn up in any shape or form, eventually losing
6-1.
To all intent and purposes the match was effectively over after 15 minutes
of the first half with Bangor 4-0 down. The application and attitude that
was the epitome of the team's success at the start of the season was
lacking on Saturday.
It is imperative that they ensure that once they run out to start any
remaining game this year that they are all fully aware and focused on both
our individual and collective responsibilities.
Indeed Kilkeel increased their lead to 5-0 before half-time with another
goal that started deep in their own half and after some excellent passing
resulted in a simple tap in for their young centre forward. Bangor did
manage to reduce the arrears before half time with a goal from Gerry "Arjen
Robben" Hamill. He later fell over and got someone sent off for it.
Bangor started the second half intent on trying to reduce the arrears but
despite winning a number of short corners were unable to add to their goal
tally. It was Kilkeel who scored the final goal mid-way through the half
to complete the 6-1 score line.
The team return to the league campaign on Saturday with a home game
against Parkview. With eight games remaining the side have the opportunity
to consolidate their position at the top of the league and ensure that we
gain one of the promotion spots to Junior Three. However, they need to
concentrate on playing to our strengths and do the simple things
effectivel to put Saturday's result and performance behind them and
importantly learn from the mistakes that were made.
Finally, many thanks to Graham Laird for umpiring.
