Bangor 3rds 2 v 3 Lisnagarvey 3rds

On Saturday Bangor 3rds entertained Lisnagarvey 3rds who were currently flying in Junior Two. A youthful Bangor side started the game brightly but with Garvey’s experience in Junior One showing, the opponents began to perform well, spreading the ball well.  Bangor to their credit did not give up on anything, matching their commitment. Both sides created chances, with Lyall, on the right, beating the left back on countless occasions. However, Garvey’s speed on the counter proved crucial in the opening goal, catching Bangor on the back foot. Bangor’s heads didn’t drop, despite conceding another and at half time, with the score still 2-0, Bangor were confident of getting back into the game.

Garvey started the second half the better, but Bangor hit back scoring a well worked goal, finished by Tweed. With the game hanging in the balance, with both sides creating chances, Bangor’s captain took a high cross on his arm, forcing him to be substituted. With a rearranged defence, Bangor managed to hang on, and rode their luck with Garvey hitting the post from a short corner. Garvey’s third came shortly after, from a cross that caused confusion in the Bangor area. Bangor’s heads didn’t drop and with minutes remaining, they scored again, Luke Brennan, 3-2. this was to be the final score as Garvey kept the ball, despite brave attempts to get it back in search of the equaliser. All in all, a good performance from Bangor, against a side destined for promotion.

Thanks to G Laird for umpiring.  Man of the match was M Coughlin, closely followed by Lyall.
